Hun Manet Expresses Gratitude for Hun Sen's Role in Liberating Cambodia and Bringing Peace

Phnom Penh, 16 July 2024: Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation for the invaluable achievements of Hun Sen, who liberated Cambodia from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot. He acknowledged Hun Sen's role in bringing peace, national unity, and territorial integrity to Cambodia through the introduction of win-win politics, marking a significant chapter in the country's 500-year history.

Prime Minister Hun Manet made these remarks on the morning of July 16, 2024, during a visit and inauguration of the remaining functions of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

Hun Sen stated that win-win politics is the foundation of long-term peacekeeping. This policy has eliminated racial, religious, and sectarian discrimination, allowing all Cambodians to live harmoniously in society.

"I would like to take this rare opportunity to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation and always remember the great achievements and invaluable merits of the leadership, especially Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, who liberated the country from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot and brought peace, national unity, and territorial integrity in its 500-year history through the introduction of win-win politics," said Prime Minister Hun Manet.

He also highlighted Hun Sen's dedication to supporting the establishment of the ECCC and ensuring the smooth completion of the trials of Khmer Rouge leaders, which received international recognition.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also thanked and commemorated the work, dedication, and legacy of Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An, who led the Cambodian government's negotiating team with the United Nations to establish the hybrid tribunal, maintaining sovereignty in leading and managing the trial process.

Additionally, he stated that through the win-win policy, the Cambodian government established the ECCC with excellent cooperation from the United Nations and financial support from the international community. This effort aimed to provide justice to the victims of the Khmer Rouge regime, reconcile a divided society, eradicate the culture of impunity, and send a message to world leaders about the consequences of their atrocities.
